You know the whole saying that if you dont have the money, dont buy it? Well, its true. We all have those friends who have to have the new iPod touch even though they just got a new nano last month! Do humans really not have enough self control?
It's not right to spend the money you dont have. Thats called debt, people. And if you do borrow money from a friend or parent, you pay it back! I mean, im not the one to talk or anything because it takes me several weeks to pay friends back, but I eventually do. It just takes me time to remember to.
So money is meant to spend as a reward. Being in debt is nothing to reward yourself for. You dont need to have that new $80 dress (whimper), those $45 jeans are so not worth it, and you have a 54'' flat screen, you dont need to upgrade it to a 58''. There are just some things that are overpriced and unnecessary.
Being one of the few people unaffected by the recession, I see people being broke all the time. The prices of everything are going up every single day. People don't need to buy those new shorts when they come out in the new spring collection in January! How about wait until at least March when you might be able to wear them. Most likely, you will have to wait until after spring break to wear them. Hell, if you buy them now, they might not fit you when it is weather appropriate to wear them.
Don't buy what you dont need (or at least dont need yet). Save up and you might be able to buy a better quality one when the time is better.
